The University of Southern Indiana at Evansville has announced that mens head basketball coach Rodney Watson is retiring. Watson became USI Screaming Eagle head coach in 2009-10 and during his 11 season at the helm became the winningest coach in school history with a 251-82 overall mark and a 142-60 record in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. During his tenure, Watson led USI to the 2019 NCAA Division 2 Elite Eight semi-finals, the 2019 NCAA Division 2 Midwest Regional Championship, 7 NCAA Division 2 Tournament appearances and two GLVC championships in 2012 and 2014. His Eagles finished 2019-20 at 22-8 overall and 13-7 in the conference. They reached the GLVC Tournament semi-finals and were slated to appear in the NCAA Division 2 Midwest Regional before it was cancelled by the coronavirus pandemic. The national search for a successor to Watson will begin in the near future.
