ST FRANCISVILLE TO CLOSE 13TH ST BRIDGE

bridge-closed

The St Francisville City Council met in regular session Wednesday night and after much discussion moved to close the 13th Street Bridge to both pedestrian and vehicular traffic in the future. The city was advised by state officials that something needed to be done with the structure. There were four options discussed–doing nothing to the bridge, putting up barricades and signage indicating the bridge would be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic, repair it as a vehicle and pedestrian bridge, or repair it as a pedestrian only structure. The repairs need to upgrade and maintain the bridge were deemed too expensive and taking no action was not favorable so the council followed the recommendation of HLR Engineering. The bridge is protected from demoliton by being on the National Historic Register.
