Some bad economic news for southwestern Indiana. 90 full time employees will lose their jobs in Sullivan County. Sunrise Coal LLC in Carlisle is stopping production. The company is owned by Hallador Energy Company in Terre Haute. A press release from the company this week indicated that weak market conditions have resulted in an over-supply of domestic coal and has made neccessary the reduction of production. The release did say that the idling of production at Carlisle was expected to be temporary and production will also be shifted to the mine in Oaktown in neighboring Knox County. Sunrise Coal is Indiana’s second largest coal producer.
