The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced that Illinois Route 1 south of Mt Carmel to grayvlle is closed. The closure is due to high water over the road caused by a clogged culvert near a railroad track. Nearly a foot of water covers portions of the highway. Motorists are advised to not drive through flood waters and to find an alternate route. The closure is expected to last several days.
