Betty Ruth White Leighty

Betty Ruth White Leighty, 96, passed away January 3rd, 2020 at her home with her daughter in Zephyrhills, Florida.
She was born in rural Gibson County, Indiana on November 26th, 1923, the daughter of Chester Raymond White and Ellen Melvina Burnett. Both parents, a sister and brother preceded her in death. She graduated from Mt Carmel, IL Hgh School and Michael Reese Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago. She married Wiliiam G. Leighty at Navy Pier on October 6, 1944. He passed away August 12, 2010.
Betty is survived by her son, WG Leighty, Jr (Jean) of Inverness, FL and Sue Leighty Tillmann of Zephyrhills, FL, 5 grand children and 13 great grand children and a great granddaughter due in June.
Betty was active in her church, East Lake United Methodist Church in Oldsmar, FL She was a member of Chapter AT of PEO Sisterhood in Lawrenceville, IL serving as President for 2 terms during the 1970s. She served as Chairperson on the committee to build the Teen Center. She served on the National Board of Camp Fire Girls for 2 terms and served as Camp Director for many years. She received many awards for her service to the community.
A memorial service for both Betty and Bill will be held in Lawrenceville at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Lawrenceville Teen Center c/o Ginger Schick, 120345 Brushy Creek Lane, Lawrenceville, IL 62439.
