The Lawrence County Board met in regular session Wednesday and passed an ordinance establishing a cannabis retailer’s occupation tax. The measure allows the county to tax recreational marijuana sales in unincorporated areas at 3.75% and in municipalities at 3% beginning January 1st. That is when recreational marijuana use becomes legal in Illinois. The board also set it’s meeting dates for 2020 on the third Wednesday of each month at 4 p.m. at the Lawrence County Courthouse. It was announced that county administrative assistant Tammy Tate will be leaving the position as of January 1st to take another job in Olney.
