The Wabash County States Attorneys Office has announced that a Mt Carmel man was sentenced to prison for starving a pit bull dog to death. 28 year old Thomas Arender plead guilty to Class 4 Illinois Felony Aggravated Cruelty. The charge stems from Arender leaving the dog at a Mt Carmel residence without care from early January through mid February. The dog was discovered in a malnourished state and was taken to the Wabash County Animal Shelter and later died there. Arender will be given credit for time served after his arrest in the Wabash County Jail and will be on one year of mandatory supervised release after finishing his prison term. He remains free on bond and must report for transfer to the Illinois Department of Corrections on Thursday December 26th.
