An area man was accidentally shot during the initial weekend of the Illinois firearm deer hunting season. Todd Weishaar of Teutopolis was hunting in rural Jasper County Saturday when he was shot in the knee by a fellow hunter during a deer drive at the edge of a woods. The hunter firing the shot did not see Weishaar. He was taken initially to St Anthony Hospital in Effingham and later transferred to Carle Hospital in Urbana and is listed in stable condition. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources did investigate the shooting circumstances and indicated there were no gun or hunting violations involved in the incident.
