15th District Republican Congressman John Shimkus will have records, correspondence, photos, and other papers from his over 24 year career in Washington D.C. housed in the “Shimkus Collection” at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in western Illinois. The announcement was made Friday at the school by Shimkus and Chancellor Randy Pembrook. The process of selecting the items to be kept for the collection is already underway and Shimkus staff members are screening everything to ensure federal privacy laws and regulations are not violated. Once his current term ends in Washington the items will be transferred to SIU-E. Shimkus announced earlier he would not seek re-election and retire. The Shimkus Collection will be available for study and research by future political science and history students and historians.
