The City of Lawrenceville hosted a public informational meeting regarding recreational marijuana in the council chambers at City Hall Wednesday afternoon. The session was to discuss issues related to the potential sale of the drug in the city and Lawrence County and its ramifications. There were opinions for and against voiced during the meeting. There were a number of county and city officials on hand to hear the ideas. Lawrenceville Mayor Don Wagner stressed that it is important for all local residents who have an opinion for or against to make those known to their elected representatives so they can make an informed decisions on the issue in the future. The State of Illinois approved the sale of recreational marijuana in June with sales to be allowed starting January 1st of 2020. However municipal governments do have legal options regarding allowing sales in their communities.
