The unemployment rate fell or was stationary in most areas of southeastern Illinois from August to September according to the Department of Employment Security. Additional job gains in the region were among the factors. The IDES also says the state saw its lowest number of unemployment claims filed in September in 45 years. In Lawrence County unemployment was stationary from August to September at 4.8%. Unemployment in neighboring Richland and Wabash Counties was also stationary at 3.8% and 3.6% respectively. Joblessness in Crawford County was up slightly from 4% in August to 4.1% in October. All those September unemployment rates for 2019 were below the September rates of 2018 according to the IDES.
