LAWRENCE COUNTY BOARD MEETS

The Lawrence County Board met in regular monthly session Wednesday at the Lawrence County Courthouse. They did approve the 2020 tenative budget of around $7.1 million dollars and the tax levy. The budget was described as balanced with a surplus of around $12 to 14,000 and the tax levy amount was lower than the previous year. Formal approval of the budget and levy will come in November. The board approved a budget amendment reflecting the reciept of an over $33,000 state grant by the Lawrence County Sheriffs Department for the installation of cameras in 6 of its vehicles in the future. Sheriff Russell Adams indicated that the cameras will be an immense aid to law enforcement in the county. Also approved were two engineering service agreements for bridge construction on the Chauncey Blacktop and Olive Branch Lane and a 2 year intergovernmental agreement with the Illinois Department of Transportation for the local bridge inspections to be done by Highway Superintendent Aaron Mefford in the future.
