The Illinois unemployment rate hit a historic low in August. The Department of Employment Security reports that the jobless rate during the month came in at 4.3% down from 4.2% in July. That is the lowest monthly rate on record and is a good sign that the Illinois economy is on the rise. Jobs did fall slightly from July to August but were up by about 65,000 compared to August of last year. The national unemployment rate for August was 3.7%. Individual county unemployment rates for Southeastern Illinois including Lawrence County were not yet available from the IDES.
