The Illinois State Police out of District 12 in Effingham have announced they will be conducting Nightime Enforcement (NITE) patrols in Lawrence and Richland Counties through the end of September. Those patrols will allow them to focus on preventing, detecting, and taking enforcement action on impaired driving and seat belt violations between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. The number of unrestrained drivers killed in traffic crashes is significantly higher at night with over half of all fatal crashes in Illinois occuring at night.
