The Illinois Enterprise Zone Board has approved 14 applications to establish or renew enterprise zones across the state. Enterprise zones encourage job growth and investment in economically depressed areas. Companies located within those zones may qualify for various types of tax incentives. There are currently 97 enterprise zones across the state including one in Lawrence County. Once designated an area may remain an enterprise zone for 15 years with a review by the Board for a possible 10 year extension. Among the new zones going into effect on January 1st of 2020 is one in the Robinson-Crawford County area in southeastern Illinois.
