A Flora man has announced his candidacy for the Illinois State Representative seat in the 109th District. Stephen Smith made the announcement this week. He will vye for the Republican nomination. Smith is a realtor and real estate investor in Clay County where he resides with his family. He is the third candidate to announce for that position. Cory Musgrave of Fairfield also will run for the Republican nomination and John Spencer of Louisville Illinois will be a Democratic candidate for the seat. All three are looking to succeed incumbent 109th District State Represenative Darren Bailey. Bailey will run for the 55th District State Senate seat being vacated by Dale Righter who is not running for re-election.
