Russell Porter Rogers, Sr.

Russell Porter Rogers, Sr., age 67, of Sumner, Illinois passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at his residence. He was born March 19, 1952 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of Harry and Pearl (Wagner) Rogers.

Russell served in the United States Army, and then in the Illinois Army National Guard as a Recruiter serving Southern Illinois until retirement. He was a past Commander of the American Legion Post 28 in Lawrenceville, Illinois. He was also a member of the American Legion in Olney, Illinois.

Preceding Russ in death were his parents and three sisters.

Survivors include his fiancé, Judy Glenn of Sumner, Illinois; one son, Russell Porter “Buddy” Rogers, Jr. of Sumner, Illinois; two daughters, Christine Cosby of Fort Branch, Indiana, Debra Martin of Princeton, Indiana; three brothers, Kurt Rogers of Spring, Texas, Gary Rogers of Belleville, New Jersey, Perry Rogers of Bridgeport, Illinois; six sisters, Mary Londono of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Ruth Geyer of Cape Coral, Florida, Judy Rogers of Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, Portia Strelbski of Ft. Meyers, Florida, Lisa Klemisch currently stationed in Germany with the US Army, Danielle Wiley of White Haven, Pennsylvania; twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday, August 9, 2019 beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner, Illinois. Visitation will be Thursday, August 8, 2019 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the Sumner Cemetery in Sumner, Illinois. Military rites will be conducted.
