The Vincennes City Council has approved on third and final reading an ordinance covering the vacating of Shelby Street and an alley for development of the French Village by Vincennes University. The action came after questions by the council regarding utilities in that area were answered. The council also approved the reappointment of Howard Hatcher as city representative on the Police Merit Commission and set the date of Tuesday August 20th for budget hearings with city department heads. They will meet on that date at 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time at the council chambers. The Board of Works approved the bid of $94,000 by Diamond Equipment for the purchase of a Trac Welder to used by the Street Department for work in the future.
