VOTTO AND GRAY LEAD REDS OVER CUBS

Joey Votto had a season high four singles including the 1800th hit of his career and drove in a run to back the solid pitching of starter Sonny Gray and lead the Cincinnati Reds to a 6-3 win Friday night at the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati. Gray pitched shutout ball until the top of the seventh inning before giving up a two run Jason Heyward home run. Michael Lorenzen pitched out of a two on threat in the eighth and got the last five outs for his fifth save. Cole Hamels started for the Cubs but had to exit the game in the top of the second with discomfort in his side. He took the loss. The win snapped a four game losing streak for the Reds. The two teams play game two of the three game series late Saturday afternoon. It will pit Jose Quintana (4-7) for the Cubs against Luis Castillo (7-2) for the Reds. The game can be heard on Lite 103 WAKO with the pregame at 2:35 p.m. Central time 3:35 Eastern.
