The Illinois High School Athletic Association has announced changes in the future in the format for the boys and girls state basketball finals. The board of directors voted to hold the girls finals on a single weekend beginning in 2021 with the boys state finals also having the same format. Play will be on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. IHSA executive director Craig Anderson says that there has been a great deal of support for the change. Each class will continue to have four state qualifying teams while the exact number of games each day and the game times will be finalized in the coming months. The girls and boys state tournaments will be played under the current format in 2020.
