Houston pitcher Gerritt Cole struck out 12 Cubs over 6 innings to lead the Astros to a 6-5 win over Chicago Monday afternoon in interleague play at Minute Maid Park in Houston. Anthony Rizzo smacked a two run homer in the top of the first to give the Cubs the lead, but the Astros rallied with 5 runs in the bottom of the third inning off Cub starter and loser Cole Hamels to take the lead for good. The Cubs made it closer in the ninth with blasts by Albert Almora Jr and Addison Russell before the game ended with Javier Baez striking out. Game two of the series between divisional leaders is Tuesday night with Jon Lester (3-3) going for the Cubs and Corbin Martin (1-1) for the Astros.
