LADY SALUKIS WIN TIGHT BATTLE WITH LADY INDIANS

The Red Hill Lady Softball Salukis closed up the regular season Friday with a 5-4 win over their Lawrence County rivals the Lawrenceville Lady Indians at Leigh Ann Westall Field in Bridgeport. The Lady Salukis scored their 5 runs on 8 hits and made no errors while the Lady Indians scored 4 times on 12 hits and made only 1 error. For the Lady Salukis Mattie Ryan had 2 hits including a home run, Emma Robinson had 2 hits and an RBI and Allie Johnson had a hit and drove in 2. The Lady Indians were led at the plate by Alyssa Garza with 3 hits, Jayley Akers had 2 hits including a home run and drove in 2, Katelyn Higginbotham and Elizabeth Steffey each had 2 hits, and Sara Joines homered. Cat Bowersock picked up the win while Abby Gartner took the loss. The Lady Salukis enter into Class A regional play next week at Farina (South Central) Wednesday against St Elmo while the Lady Indians finish up the regular season Saturday. They will complete an LIC game vs Olney at Olney then play Oblong in the Lady Tiger Invitational. They will then play for either 3rd place or the championship. The Lady Indians also enter into regional play next week. They will play Mt Carmel Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Class 2A Flora Regional.
