A Cowden woman was injured in a two-vehicle accident in Richland County Thursday morning. The accident occurred at around 7:44 am at the intersection of Illinois 130 and Dundas Lane involving a 2000 Toyota Camry driven by 23 year-old Alexis R. Gillespy of Cowden and a 2019 Kenworth driven by 39 year-old Steven L. Atwood of Olney. The Illinois State Police say Gillespy and Atwood were both traveling south on Illinois 130 at Dundas Lane. Atwood in his 2019 truck tractor semitrailer, slowed and was preparing to turn east onto Dundas Lane. Gillespy failed to reduce speed and struck the rear of Atwood’s semi with the front of her Toyota Camry. Gillespy was transported by ambulance to Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney. Gillespy was charged with failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
