Cale Powell pumped in a career high 28 points Friday night to propel the Lawrenceville Basketball Indians to a 91-72  Little Illini Conference win over the Newton Eagles at LHS. The Tribe put the pressure on the young Eagles early and jumped out to a 21-8 lead after one quarter of play. But Newton fought back in the second stanza and cut the lead to 40-31 at the half. The Indians then put the game away by again pressuring the Eagles in the third and led 68-48 after three and were not challenged for the remainder of the game. In addition to Powell’s 28 points, Jordan Jones added 13 and Blayne Winningham 12. There was no JV game. With the win, the Indians are now 8-9 and 2-2 in conference play while Newton falls to 6-12 and 1-3 in the league. The Indians next see action Tuesday when they travel to Robinson.
