The names of the two officers involved in the police-action shooting of a Vincennes man in Terre Haute have been released. The officers involved were West Terre Haute Police Sergeant Caleb Talpas and Terre Haute Police Sergeant Justin Sears. 24-year-old David Frederick allegedly refused to pull over for West Terre Haute Police after running a red light. A Terre Haute officer heard the radio traffic and helped pursue the vehicle. Police said the truck eventually entered a parking lot at 10th and Wabash, where Frederick exited the vehicle with a handgun visible to the officers. Reports say after ignoring commands to drop the weapon, Frederick raised the handgun and began shooting at the officers. Officers say they returned fire and struck him multiple times. Frederick died at the scene. State Police say they learned through their preliminary investigation that Frederick had recently expressed thoughts of suicide. Once the investigation is complete, a report will be submitted to the Vigo County Prosecutor’s Office for a full review.
