A 24-year-old Vincennes man was shot and killed by police after he allegedly fired a handgun at the officers Tuesday night in Terre Haute.  The person who died was identified as David Frederick. Frederick allegedly refused to pull over for West Terre Haute Police after running a red light. A Terre Haute officer heard the radio traffic and helped pursue the vehicle. Police said the truck eventually entered a parking lot at 10th and Wabash, where Frederick exited the vehicle with a handgun visible to the officers. Reports say after ignoring commands to drop the weapon, Frederick raised the handgun and began shooting at the officers. Officers say they returned fire and struck him multiple times. Frederick died at the scene. State Police say they learned through their preliminary investigation that Frederick had recently expressed thoughts of suicide. Both officers, who have not been identified, have been placed on administrative leave, which is customary after an officer-involved shooting. Once the investigation is complete, a report will be submitted to the Vigo County Prosecutor’s Office for a full review.
