Jamison Taillon outpitched Cole Hamels, Francisco Cervelli blasted a two run homer early and the Pittsburgh Pirates made the Chicago Cubs wait another day to clinch a postseason spot with a 5-1 win at Wrigley Field Monday night. Taillon gave up one run on five hits in seven innings to improve to 5-0 in his past seven starts. Hamels accounted for the only Cub run with his second career homer but lost his second straight start after going 4-0 following his trade from Texas. He gave up three runs and five hits in six innings. The Cubs needed a win and a loss by Colorado to assure a fourth straight trip to the playoffs but it did not happen as the Rockies beat the Phillies. Not only that but with a Milwaukee win over St Louis, the Cubs lead over the Brewers for the NL Central Division title is down to 1 1/2 games. Game two of the four game set is Tuesday night with Chris Archer (5-8) going for Pittsburgh and Mike Montgomery (5-5) for the Cubs. Hear the action on Lite 103 WAKO beginning with the pregame programming at 6:30 p.m. Central Time 7:30 Eastern.
