Two Injured After Early Morning Crash, Car Fire in Dubois County

   Two people were severely injured after an accident in Dubois County early Sunday morning. 28 year-old Milagro Cortez Funes of Jasper was eastbound on 15th Street in a 2007 Nissan Rogue at the time of the 2:50 a.m. eastern accident, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department. Authorities say Cortez Fuentes’ vehicle ran off the road near the Patoka River Bridge, struck a tree and landed on its side before bursting into flames.  Cortez Funes crawled from the vehicle, even though she suffered multiple injuries that included a fractured right femur, according to the sheriff’s department. A passenger, 33 year-old Rene Antonio Vanegas of Jasper, suffered multiple injuries that included facial injuries and had to be pulled from the burning vehicle by Jasper Police Department officers. The Nissan was a total loss. No charges were filed immediately after the crash but the investigation is continuing.
