Former Area Girls AAU Basketball Coach Sentenced to 60 Years

   Former area girls AAU Basketball coach Barry Wolfe of Martinsville recieved the maximum, a total of 60 years in prison, in a sentence handed down Friday by Coles County Circuit Judge Brien O’ Brien. Three of Wolfe’s former players told their stories during the hearing on Friday before Judge O’Brien called Wolfe’s actions “horrific”, “despicable”, and “inexcusable” when handing down the sentence. The 54 year-old Wolfe, 54 pleaded guilty to four counts of criminal sexual assault out of a total of 55 counts, a mixture of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, criminal sexual assault with force, criminal sexual assault while in a position of authority and aggravated sexual assault. He must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence. Wolfe has been jailed since his arrest in October of 2017 and was given credit for his time in custody since then.
