Javier Baez tied a career high with his 23rd home run and took over the National League lead with 84 RBI to help the Chicago Cubs beat the San Diego Padres 5-4 in game two of their four game series at Wrigley Field Friday afternoon. Baez’s hitting supported the solid start of Jose Quintana who allowed one run on four hits in six innings before leaving with a 3-1 lead. Pedro Strop nearly blew a 5-2 lead in the ninth allowing two runs before striking out pinch-hitter Austin Hedges with one on for his sixth save. Game three is Saturday afternoon with Joey Lucchesi (5-6) on the mound for the Padres and Kyle Hendricks (7-9) for the Cubs. The game can be heard on Lite 103 WAKO with the pregame show at 12:45 p.m. Central Time 1:45 Eastern.
