Matt Carpenter hit three homers and two doubles in six innings tying the major league record for extra base hits in a game leading the St Louis Cardinals to an 18-5 rout of the Chicago Cubs in game two of their five game series at Wrigley Field Friday. The Redbird first baseman was 5 for 5 on the day and drove in 7 runs. He was pulled from the game after the sixth inning. Carpenter became the 14th player with five extra-base hits in a game and the first to do it with the Cardinals. During the lopsided game, the Cubs used three position players to pitch-the first time that has happened in a game since 1979. The two teams will play a day-night doubleheader Saturday. In the first game John Gant (3-3) is expected to pitch for the Cards and Mike Montgomery (3-3) for the Cubs. You can hear the game beginning with the pregame at 11:35 a.m. Central Time 12:35 Eastern. Starters for game 2 are Luke Weaver (5-8) for St Louis and Tyler Chatwood (3-5) for the Cubs. Pregame for game two is at 5:40 p.m. Central 6:40 Eastern on Lite 103 WAKO.
