Maxine L. Powell, 97, of Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away on Monday, July 16, 2018 at the United Methodist Village-North Campus in Lawrenceville, Illinois. She was born March 21, 1921 in Owensville, Indiana, the daughter of Warrick and Hazel (Linenburger) Hale. She married Alfred Powell on June 8, 1941 and he preceded her in death on October 10, 2011. They had celebrated 70 years of marriage.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lawrenceville.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Alfred; and two brothers, Raymond Hale and Bob Hale.

Survivors include two sons, Charlie (Ruth) Powell of Winchester, Illinois; Dan (Bobbie) of Lawrenceville, Illinois; one daughter, Sue (Steve) Klein of Vincennes, Indiana; one brother, William Hale of St. Charles, Missouri; two sisters, Ruby Curl of Wingate, Indiana and Phyllis Williams of Erwin, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Treva Iaun of Springfield, Illinois; one granddaughter, Carrie; five grandsons, David, Brian, Bill, Matt and Mark; her beloved 16 great-grandchildren; and many special nephews and nieces. Maxine dearly loved her UMV-North “family” –her caregivers and friends. Camp-group friends and those in her Sunday School class were also very important to her.

Hospitality and generosity were her special gifts. She loved entertaining, cooking and traveling.

Funeral services will be Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 10:00 AM (CST) at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM (CST) at the funeral home. Burial will be in the May Chapel cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Maxine’s memory may be made to the United Methodist Village-North Campus, Lawrenceville.
