BAEZ HEROICS LEAD CUBS TO EXTRA INNING WIN

Javier Baez scored the go-ahead run on consecutive errors with one out in the top of the 10th inning to spur the Chicago Cubs to a 5-4 extra inning win over the San Diego Padres in game one of their three game series at Petco Park Friday night. Baez reached on an infield single, stole second and took third when the catcher’s throw sailed into center field and raced home when the centerfielder bobbled the ball. Anthony Rizzo tied the game in the top of the 9th with two outs as he doubled home pinchrunner Jason Heyward. Pedro Strop picked up the win in relief with Brandon Morrow pitching the 10th for his 21st save. Game two of the series is Saturday night with Kyle Hendricks (5-8) going for the Cubs and Luis Perdomo (1-3) on the mound for the Padres (1-3).
