THREE FROM LAWRENCE COUNTY QUALIFY FOR BOYS STATE TRACK FINALS

Three Lawrence County athletes have qualified for the IHSA Boys State track meet after competing at the Newton Sectional meet Thursday. Junior Drew Moore of Red Hill High School will advance after finishing 2nd in the high jump with a leap of just over 20 feet. Junior Blaine Hesler also of Red Hill High School was 2nd in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:01:56 and will advance to state. Lawrenceville High School junior Cole Sumner was 3rd in the pole vault with a vault of 14 feet 2 inches and will compete at state again in that event. The sectional was won by Robinson with 82 points followed by Palestine with 68, Newton was 3rd with 62 and Casey (Westfield) was 4th with 56.  The Salukis were 11th in the team standings with 16 points and the Indians were 14th with 6. The boys state meet is next weekend in Charleston.
