Effingham held off Mattoon and Newton to win the 15 team Newton Invitational track and field meet last Friday. The Flaming Hearts won the meet with 86 points, Mattoon was second with 76, Newton third with 70, and Charleston was fourth with 67. The Red Hill Saluki boys finished 13th with 16 points and the Lawrenceville Indian boys were 14th with 10 points. The Newton Girls Invitational meet is Monday at 4 p.m.
