CARDS BEAT CUBS AT FRIGID WRIGLEY FIELD

Adam Wainwright outpitched Tyler Chatwood in frigid conditions at Wrigley Field in Chicago Tuesday night and Matt Carpenter had two hits and drove in three runs including the game winners late as the St Louis Cardinals beat the Cubs 5-3. The gametime temperature was 35 degrees with a 29 degree wind chill. Wainwright allowed an unearned run, struck out five, walked four, and allowed four hits to improve to 1-2 while Chatwood struck out seven, gave up two runs on one hit in 4 2/3 innings to fall to 0-3. Javier Baez blasted a two run homer off Redbird reliever Greg Holland in the bottom of the eighth but it was not enough as the Cubs lost for the third time in four games. The Cardinals have won five in a row. Wednesday’s scheduled game has been postponed by cold weather and snow and will be played Thursday afternoon.
