With no contested local races, voter turnout in Lawrence County was low. 1,545 of 8,737 registered voters went to the polls for a 17.6 percent turnout. There were some statewide races to decide on both the Republican and Democrat ballots. Governor Bruce Rauner, a Republican, and J.B. Pritzker, a Democratic billionaire heir and businessman, will face off in November after each won his primary on Tuesday, both statewide and in Lawrence County. Kwame Raoul, a Democrat, will face Erika Harold, a Republican, for the Attorney General’s office in November after each won their primary statewide. Harold also took Lawrence County; while Raoul lost to Pat Quinn locally. Attorney General Lisa Madigan is not seeking a fifth term. Incumbent Republican David Reis of Ste. Marie was defeated by challenger Darren Bailey of Xenia for the Republican nomination to represent the 109th House District, even though Reis won in Lawrence County.
