The Lawrenceville Unit 20 School Board fired first-year band director Brandon Volk during a special session this week. Volk was not at Tuesday’s meeting, the second such session to discuss the matter. Unit 20 Superintendent Doug Daugherty said Volk was given the opportunity to resign but chose not to. Unit 20 officials stated in a released document that Volk was terminated due to “inappropriate interaction with a student” and “unprofessional misconduct and conduct unbecoming of an educator.”
