The Mt Carmel Golden Aces captured the Class 2A Lawrenceville regional basketball championship Friday night with a narrow thrilling win over the Harrisburg Bulldogs. The Aces led 15-10 after one quarter, but the Bulldogs rallied to lead by one at the half 26-25 and by one after three quarters 37-36, Mt Carmel, spurred by a Blake Golden three point play with under a minute to go, took an eight point lead , but the spunky Bulldogs would not die and came back. They missed two point blank shots that would have tied the game in the final seconds and lost the heaartbreaker 51-49. Mt Carmel was led by Beau Stipp with 13 points, Austin Rager had 12 and Jackson Marcotte added 11. For 23-8 Harrisburg, Blake Drue had 17 points and Isaiah Saulsberry 14. Mt Carmel improves to 17-11 and will face Effingham St Anthony in the Robinson Sectional next week.
