Illinois State Police are investigating a two-vehicle accident which occurred in Lawrence County over the weekend. 35 year-old Samantha Jo Smith of Princeton was driving east on Old US 50 three miles east of Lawrenceville when a passing black car cut in front of her. Smith lost control of her vehicle and slid off the road and went into a south ditch. The vehicle overturned several times before coming to rest upside down in a field. Smith was ejected from the vehicle. She was initially taken by ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, before later being transferred to IU Hospital in Bloomington. Ilinois State Police are searching for the driver of the black car, who continued on without stopping at the time of the accident.
