IRS Scam Targeting Area Residents

Authorities say an IRS scam is targeting area residents. It’s been reported that individuals will notice a large deposit into their personal banking account.  The deposit will show up as an ACH deposit from the IRS.  Scammers will then call the account owner and say it was a mistake and ask for personal information in order to get the money returned to the IRS. The scammers will then empty the person’s account.  Authorities say the IRS will never make first contact by the phone. Anyone who believes they are a victim of this scam should contact their tax adviser.
