INDIANS AND SALUKIS LOSE IN LIC QUARTERFINALS

Both Lawrence County teams lost Saturday in the quarterfinals of the Little Illini boys basketball tournament at Red Hill high school in Bridgeport. The Lawrenceville  Indians were beaten by top seed Casey 73-48. The Warriors used the inside strength of center Luke Richards who scored 25 points and the outside shooting of guard Ethan Gilbert enroute to the win. The Tribe were led by Zeus Marsh with 12 and Conner O’Dell with 11. With the loss, the Indians will play Newton in a consolation bracket semifinal Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Their overall record falls to 4-13. Meanwhile the Red Hill Salukis were knocked off by second seed Robinson 69-55. The Salukis led 18-10 after one quarter but were passed by the Maroons in the second quarter and trailed 33-24 at the half and could not recover. Walker Sandschafer led Robinson with 27 points. Four scored in double digits for the Salukis-Parker Havill with 17, Andy Wells with 12 and Drew Moore and Landon Ray with 11 each. Red Hill is now 7-10 and will play in a consolation semifinal Wednesday at 6 p.m. against either Paris or Olney.
