Phoebe E. “Betty” Vaught,100, of Vincennes, passed away at 1:33 am Friday, December 22, 2017 at her residence with her family by her bedside.
She was born on October 31, 1917 in Martinsville, Illinois to Daniel and Hattie (Howe) Fitch.
Betty retired as a secretary at State Farm Insurance. Her memberships included the First Christian Church in Vincennes, Home Extension Club, and the knitting club. Betty enjoyed quilting, sewing, embroidery, reading, puzzles, and gardening.
Surviving are her grandchildren, Julia (Grant) Utt and Andrea (Scott)Tumey of Vincennes; her great grandchildren, Macey Utt, Shelby Tumey, and Brennon Tumey; and a niece, Betty Ann Williams of St. Louis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stanley Vaught, who she married on May 22, 1937; a daughter, Barbara A. Barry; and her two sisters, Helen Williams, and Mary Macey.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, December 28, 2017, at Goodwin Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Pieper officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgeview Cemetery in Martinsville, Illinois. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church or the GSH Hospice.
