Viola Imogene “Imy” Hughes, age 91 of Bridgeport, passed away Thursday, November 30, 2017 in Lawrenceville at the United Methodist Village-North Campus. She was born April 15, 1926 in Oblong to Jesse Elsworth Parrott and his wife Leola Rosetta (Cummins) Parrott.
On February 19, 1943, Gene L. Hughes married Imy. He preceded her in death on December 6, 2015.
Imy was a long-time member of the Hi-Way Church of God and was a devoted homemaker to her family. She also had worked at Woolworth’s in Lawrenceville years ago. Her smile and love will be truly missed by her family.
Surviving family includes: two sons- Rodger Hughes and Gregory Gene Hughes both of Bridgeport: one daughter- Connieta Goff of Marseilles: ten grandchildren: several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren: and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her husband- Gene L. Hughes: parents- Jesse and Leola Parrott: eight sisters: and seven brothers.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 4, 2017 at the Hi-Way Church of God. Visitation will be held at the church from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. Final resting place will be next to her husband in the Petty Cemetery north of Sumner.
