Fire broke out at the Packaging Corporation of America plant on Saint Clair Street in Vincennes Tuesday afternoon.  Firefighters were called out just after 2:30 pm eastern in the compactor room at the center of the plant. Two cardboard chip compactors were damaged. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the two machines and the cardboard inside them. Fire Crews were on the scene for around four hours ventilating a large amount of smoke, and removing paper clipping from the machines. There were no injuries reported. The fire’s cause is reported as accidental. Fire officials say the amount of damage caused by the fire could run in the high tens of thousands of dollars. Numerous rolls of stock paper balls suffered water damage. Despite the fire, the plant is expected to be up and running today.
