Firefighters in Vincennes responded to a fire Tuesday afternoon at Packaging Corporation on E. St. Clair Street. The call came in at around 2:37 pm reporting a fire in the baler room. Subsequent dispatches indicated that St. Clair Street between 3rd and 6th in the vicinity of the fire was closed to traffic for a time. Within minutes of the arrival of the first responders, all Vincennes firefighters were summoned to help combat the blaze. Dispatches after 3:00 said the fire had been contained and no injuries were reported. Gas and electricity to the building were shut off as precautions. The fire has been determined to be accidental. The blaze destroyed two machines causing tens of thousands of dollars in damage. There was also extensive water damage to some inventory.
