TRACTOR FIRE

A tractor caught on fire in Lawrence County yesterday morning. Four units of the Lawrence-Allison Fire Protection District were called out to County Road 1200 North, just a half-mile east of County Road 1900 East. The tractor, owned by Triple S Land Company of Allendale, caught on fire due to a mechanical problem. There were no injuries reported. An estimated $400,000 worth of damage was done to the tractor.

MCKINNEY SENTENCE POSTPONED

   The scheduled sentencing for a Lawrenceville man convicted on multiple charges in connection with the shooting of Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputy Kyle Gilmore following a traffic stop in Lawrenceville on February 22nd of last year. was postponed  A Lawrence County Circuit Court jury deliberated for around two hours August 3rd before returning with the guilty verdict against 55-year-old Keith McKinney.  McKinney was found guilty on charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery and unlawful possession of weapons by a felon.  Sentencing is now set for Friday, October 20th at 10:30 a.m. McKinney faces anywhere from 26 years to life in prison.

INJURY ACCIDENT

   A Lawrenceville woman was injured in a single-vehicle accident in Lawrence County. Angelique Young was driving west on US 50 east of Lawrenceville and west of the Lake Sun and Sand turn-off when she experienced problems with a tire. Young lost control of her vehicle and went off the right side of the road before overturning. Young had to be extricated from the vehicle and was taken by ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes.  

CHESTNUT FESTIVAL CONTINUES

 The 42nd annual St. Francisville Chestnut Festival wraps up today with plenty of activities. Today’s activities include the St. Francisville Senior Citizens Center’s sausage gravy breakfast; city-wide yard sales; a baby contest at 10 am on the main stage; performances by the cheer, dance and tumbling groups at 10:30 am; craft beer testing from noon until 6 pm; a parade at 2 pm; a raffle drawing at 3 pm;  live music by “Wood and Wire” from 3:30 until 6 pm and the St. Francisville All-School Class Reunion at 6 pm in the school gym.
