Mickey Owen Smallwood, 71, of Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away Sunday, September 10, 2017 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana. He was born August 18, 1946 in Hannibal, Missouri, the son of John and Anna (Foster) Smallwood. He married Sandy Kerns on October 31, 1969 and she survives.

Mickey worked at Sheehan Pipeline Construction Company as a mechanic and driver, Tussey Trucking as a mechanic and driver, and Rucker’s Candy as a driver. He was a navy veteran, serving in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lawrenceville. He volunteered at the church and as a counselor for amputees at Aperion Care. He was also a Scout Master with Troop 245 for 14 years, and had 15 scouts make Eagle Scout.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother; and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, Sandy; two sons, John Frederick Smallwood and wife, Chasity, of Lawrenceville, Illinois and Kevin Owen Smallwood and wife, Charity, of Lawrenceville, Illinois; one daughter, Tonya Smallwood of Chillicothe, Missouri; one sister, Dixie Roberts of New London, Missouri; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in the May Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mickey’s memory may be made to the donor’s choice.
