Mildred “Millie” Louise Kent

Mildred “Millie” Louise Kent, 94, a long-time resident of Lawrenceville, Illinois, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017 at the Gardens of Fayetteville assisted living facility in Fayetteville, Georgia. Millie was born January 7, 1923 in Marion, Indiana, the daughter of Lewis Ratcliff and Catherine (Coyle) Ratcliff. Millie married Thomas Kent on March 5, 1940 and he preceded her in death on March 1, 1978.

Millie was a homemaker until the death of her beloved husband, Tom, upon which time she entered the workforce becoming a salesperson extraordinaire at Cannon’s Furniture in Lawrenceville for many years. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, a Campfire Girls troop leader, and Gray Lady volunteer at the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital. Millie was also an avid bowler as a member of Hazel’s Fashion Shop’s team, a wicked contract bridge player, and voracious reader. Millie could be found each week perusing the stacks at the Lawrence Public Library eagerly searching for that week’s selections. For those that knew her well, she was a reliable source of stories and jokes, drawing great joy from making others laugh.

Preceding her in death were her parents and step-mother, Betty; husband, Tom; brother, Phillip; and sister, Katherine Powell.

Survivors include her four children, Thomas Kent and wife, Linda, of Senoia, Georgia, William Kent and wife, Katherine, of Boulder, Colorado, John Kent of Lawrenceville, Illinois, and Susan Kent and husband, Dennis Boismier, of Shorewood, Minnesota; 9 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 2:00 PM CST at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois.Visitation will be Saturday from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM CST at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Millie’s memory may be made to the Lawrence Public Library or the American Macular Degeneration Foundation.
