Steven “Spanky” Longest

Steven “Spanky” Longest, 65, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away July 12, 2017, at the IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington, IN.

Spanky was a truck driver for Go-Ko, Inc. Prior to that, he had driven for Thatcher Trucking in Clay City, IN. In 1969, he graduated from Central High School in Switz City, IN. He enjoyed fishing, working on cars with “Midnight”, and reading Tom Clancy books. While on the road, Steve enjoyed listening to country music, especially Garth Brooks. He was a Colts fan, and liked cook-outs with his family and friends.

Born November 28, 1951, in Mobile AL, he was the son of Burnice Maurice and Martha Lee (Freeland) Longest. His parents, and a brother, Guy Longest, preceded him.

Surviving are his children, Cheryl Longest-Pickard of Shelburn, IN, and Timothy J. Longest of Gas City, IN; sisters, Judy Bough of Solsberry, IN, Joyce Longest of Midwest City, OK, and Janet Vandermolen of Lawrenceville, IL; brothers, Ray Longest of Bloomfield, IN, and David Longest of Lawrenceville, IL; grandchildren, Ashley Sanders and her husband, Greg, of Terre Haute, IN, Brittany Baker of Sullivan, IN, Damon Vallad, serving in the US Marine Corps, Jacob Bosworth of Gas City, IN, and Jaycee Bosworth of Gas City, IN; 7 great-grandchildren; and two special co-workers who aided in the care of Spanky, Linda Kopetsky (owner of Go-Ko Trucking), and Beth Scanlon; and his best friend , Mike “Midnight” Bland and his family.

Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 – 8:00 on Monday, at Gardner-Brockman Funeral Home, 505 Main Street, Vincennes, IN. A graveside service will be held at a later date.
